The Drama (Theatre) Transfer Program devotes itself to educating theatre students in all aspects of the craft from acting, directing, and stagecraft to its history and literature, and back to the play through classes, training, and production. The program amply prepares theatre majors for university work upon graduation. Since talent does not discriminate, we encourage students of all disciplines to seek out courses and productions in which they may unlock their hidden talents as they journey with us in the art of drama and in the world of theatre.
The drama program was created so as to provide a comprehensive education in the art of drama and theatre in order to prepare students for hands-on entry-level theatre jobs and to successfully transfer to four-year colleges or universities.
In so doing, we uphold such goals and values as:
- To encourage students of all disciplines in the spirit of non-discrimination to seek out expression in which they may unlock their talents;
- To enable students to demonstrate practiced performance skills to display their understanding of the art of mastering the theatre experience;
- To cultivate disciplined forms of self-expression that deepen the path of critical thinking;
- To forward the knowledge of acting, directing, stagecraft, history and literature in an environment that welcomes reflection;
- To provide a glimpse into the inner life of the artist to provide growth and pleasure; and,
- To foster lifelong enrichment as the individual applies practical participation in the craft with spring and summer productions, a fall open mic event, and student playwriting intensives.
Recommended AA Transfer Curriculum for Drama (Theatre)
This is only a suggested transfer program and might not be appropriate for every student. Some four-year institutions accept more than 62 credits in transfer to fulfill requirements in drama/theatre. Consult the College & Career Success Center for help in selecting courses appropriate for the program at the college or university where you plan to transfer.
Faculty are available during scheduled office hours to advise students about their courses and programs. Peruse some of the offerings in the Department of Communications and Fine Arts.
All full-time transfer students are required to take OCS 121.
